Seems to me... there's another twist involving whatever happened to Otra. My guess is that there are actually two Otras out there. [Reply]

@Wisknort She (intentionally) isn't though. She's speaking Joual, which is a specific basilectal form of Quebec French. :)

I was wondering whether she could speak 'proper' French, which other cast members would probably be more likely to understand. It's a nice touch in any case! [Reply]

@Alexlayer You know, that seems like it's pretty likely too. I mean, Otra runs off, then gets captured, and they replace her with another Otra. Then they tell an elaborate lie to put Winter out of commission, and HappyCo has no more problems ever. Yumi is the only one that actually knows the secret, but before she tells anyone her TERRIBLE SECRET ABOUT WINTER'S SIDEKICK she gets bonked on the head. Then, she wakes up, and right before she can tell Lucy the TERRIBLE SECRET ABOUT WINTER'S SIDEKICK it turns out she can only speak French. I don't think that everything is as it seems. [Reply]

Got in touch with Josh, and he fixed the problem that was keeping me from posting the translation. Thanks, Josh!

After running Yumi's words through Babel Fish & Google Translate, looking up a Quebecois swear word, and making some guesses:

Miss Winter!? The sidekicks... they... I wasn't able to tell her what's happening!* We have to find her!

We must... we... wait a minute, what? (to herself:) Little yellow boat rain in Spain... OH NO! I've forgotten how to speak English!

Fuck! Now what do I do? It's very important that I speak with Winter, but she won't understand anything I say!

(to Lucy, blushing): ...okay

* Maybe "tell her who the Queen is" if Babel Fish's "who is the master key" wasn't just nonsense. [Reply]

I heard this happened to a guy after an operation. He forgot his mother's tongue and could only speak French, his secondary language, but he returned to normal soon. His brain apparantly didn't get enough oxygen during the operation, and some parts of it didn't function right for a while. [Reply]

for those who dont know, most of the french she speaks is the typical french slang used in the Quebec province... and im one of those.

Some slang translation;

"'sti" and "tabarnak" are swear words (same "use" as fuck!, shit!),
"Ayoye" is the equivalent to "Ouch"
"ouské" is the reduced form of "ou est-ce qu'est" wich means "where is"
..

Also, my Father once told me an interesting story about a French woman who hit her head, and without ever hearing English, suddenly started speaking it when she woke in the hospital. I'm not certain of it's validity, but it certainly seems relevant. [Reply]
